Speaking directly to the electorate in his latest address to Ghanaians, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo encouraged Ghanaian voters to look beyond the past and offer the country the chance of leadership from Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Speaking at a campaign rally, Akufo-Addo underscored the fact that fresh leadership would offer a future to Ghana and that only a man with the economic acumen and vision could steer the nation towards prosperity - referring, of course, to Dr. Bawumia.

The president, barely a few months away from the end of his second term, did not mince words regarding his assessment of former President John Dramani Mahama's tenure. He described Mahama's presidency as a "failed administration" and blamed it for the economic challenges Ghana faced those years before the 2016 election. "Under Mahama, Ghana was in economic disarray.". It was circumstances characterized by high inflation, unemployment, and debt accumulation," Akufo-Addo said, adding that the former president's government was unable to address critical issues facing the nation.

Akufo-Addo highlighted the starkness of the comparison between Mahama's leadership and his government's track record. He noted that under him, Ghana had continued to enjoy a significant development of infrastructural works, even bettering macroeconomic indicators, and experienced relative stability. He scored high places for different flagship programs, including the Free SHS. He also mentioned the resilience of the country compared to others against global economic challenges.

Looking ahead, Akufo-Addo reasserted his strong confidence in the ability of Dr. Bawumia to lead Ghana. "Bawumia is an economist with a clear understanding on how to drive economic growth," said the president as he outlined the experience of the vice president both in public service and economics. Akufo-Addo called upon Ghanaians to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the elections, with him stating that a vote for Bawumia means a brighter future for the country.

Coming into the 2024 elections, this will certainly be a welcome boost to the Dr. Bawumia presidential aspirations to build on the successes of the NPP's administration while coming with a vision of renewed hope and progress for Ghana.
