Bawumia commissions 1,072 Kpone affordable housing units, breaks ground for Phase 4

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has commissioned the 1,072-unit Kpone Affordable Housing Project, marking the successful completion of Phases 1 to 3 of the initiative.

The event, held on Monday, November 25, 2024, also included a groundbreaking ceremony for Phase 4, which aims to deliver an additional 800 homes, bringing the total to 1,872 units.

The project, originally launched in 2006 under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, had stalled during the Mills and Mahama administrations due to insufficient government investment. However, it has been revived under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration, fulfilling its promise to provide quality and affordable housing for Ghanaians.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Bawumia reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing Ghana’s 1.8 million housing deficit through innovative strategies.

He emphasized the critical role of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in driving sustainable housing development and unveiled plans for a “Decade of Housing Programme.”

“We have seen the transformative impact of the ‘Year of Roads.’ What we now envision is a ‘Decade of Housing’ to address Ghana’s pressing housing needs. Using the public-private partnership model, as we’ve done with the National Home Ownership Fund, we aim to significantly reduce the housing deficit,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia also highlighted the economic importance of a robust housing and mortgage market, noting that advanced economies leverage trillions of dollars through these sectors to stabilize and grow their economies.

In addition to the Kpone project, Dr. Bawumia toured ongoing construction at Phases 2 and 3 of the National Housing Fund (NHF) estates nearby, which will add 534 new homes to the national housing stock.

The Vice President further emphasized the NPP government’s commitment to building a vibrant housing sector, creating jobs, and boosting economic growth should they secure a mandate in the upcomingming elections. Please follow me and drop your comments on the comments box
