Kuami Eugene Credits Church for Shaping His Music Career

Ghanaian highlife musician Kuami Eugene has expressed gratitude to the church for playing a vital role in his growth as an artist. According to him, his journey in music began in the church, where he developed his skills and passion for music.

Speaking on Joy FM's Showbiz A-Z, Kuami Eugene revealed that he learned to play multiple musical instruments during his time in church, which laid a strong foundation for his artistry. "The church made me. I learned everything I know from the church. When I was young, I knew I would become a great musician, so I prepared myself well," he said.

The Angela hitmaker shared how his proximity to musical instruments allowed him to master them without formal training. “No one taught me how to play the piano. I just started playing because I had been around it for a long time," he noted. Today, Kuami Eugene can play the piano, trumpet, drums, and guitar, skills he credits to his early days in church.

In addition to his instrumental skills, Kuami Eugene has worked on other aspects of his craft to elevate his performances. He revealed that he taught himself to perform a backflip to add a dynamic edge to his stage presence. Furthermore, he took a course in music production, which has enhanced his ability to produce his own songs.

Kuami Eugene began his music career as a gospel artist, performing under the Eugene Marfo Ministries and producing a few gospel songs before his rise to fame after participating in the MTN Hitmaker contest. While he no longer identifies strictly as a gospel artist, his ties to the church remain strong.

He continues to collaborate with gospel musicians, writing songs for renowned artists like Joyce Blessing, Empress Gifty, and Obaapa Christy. He has even recorded a song with Obaapa Christy, showcasing his versatility and commitment to gospel music. Additionally, Kuami Eugene occasionally performs gospel songs at churches and church events, maintaining his connection to his spiritual roots.

Kuami Eugene's story highlights the significant role the church has played in nurturing his talent and shaping his career. Despite branching into highlife and secular music, the church remains a cornerstone of his musical journey, and he continues to honor its influence through his work and collaborations.
