Former President John Dramani Mahama has launched a scathing attack on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over his recent utterances on the issue of "dumsor" - the recurring power outages that have hit Ghana. Speaking at a public event, Mahama jabbed at Akufo-Addo, accusing him of being untruthful about the energy situation in the country.

The former president, who led the country from 2012 to 2017, was reacting to comments made by Akufo-Addo during a speech in which the current president denied that there is a full-scale power crisis in the country, despite widespread reports of erratic supplies across the nation. Akufo-Addo had played down the situation, stating that power outages were part of the normal cyclical nature of the energy sector.

The former president did not hold back in his response when he said, "Liars won't go to heaven," in a direct attack at Akufo-Addo. He said the country was still struggling with energy shortages, particularly the ongoing power cuts that have become the bane of Ghanaians' lives. Mahama questioned the government's ability to manage the energy sector, recalling the severe power outages that occurred during his presidency, which he said were tackled with a series of reforms and initiatives, including the importation of power from neighboring countries.

He went ahead to berate the Akufo-Addo administration for not taking responsibility for the sustained power outages and refusing to admit the problem exists. Mahama suggested that the current government has chosen to downplay the situation rather than confront it head-on and seek solutions to the challenges in the energy sector.

The former president made the remarks amid growing public discontent with the energy situation, with many citizens lamenting the frequent blackouts that have disrupted daily life and business activities. While Akufo-Addo's government has claimed improvements in the power supply, Mahama's criticism highlights the ongoing challenges that continue to affect the country's energy infrastructure.

As tensions between the two leaders continue to rise, dumsor remains a major talking point, politically, with both sides hoping to use the issue as a rallying cry for support in elections to come.
