We Charged Our 2024 Kia EV9 at a Tesla Supercharger; Here’s How It Went

In a surprising twist for electric vehicle (EV) owners, the 2024 Kia EV9, a highly anticipated all-electric SUV, can now charge at Tesla’s Supercharger network. This marks a significant shift in the EV landscape, as Tesla’s charging infrastructure, long reserved for Tesla vehicles, has been opened up to other manufacturers, including Kia. We decided to put this new capability to the test and charged our 2024 Kia EV9 at a Tesla Supercharger station. Here’s how it went.

First, it’s important to note that the 2024 Kia EV9 is one of the first non-Tesla vehicles to be compatible with Tesla’s Supercharger network, thanks to an adapter provided by Tesla. The process of using the Supercharger station was straightforward. Upon arriving at the Supercharger location, we used the adapter to connect the Kia EV9’s charging port to the Tesla charger. The adapter fit well, and the connection was seamless, allowing the car to begin charging almost immediately.

In terms of charging speed, the Kia EV9 performed well, taking full advantage of the high-speed Supercharger. The 2024 EV9 supports up to 350 kW charging, and the Tesla Supercharger network is capable of delivering rapid charging speeds. Over the course of our session, the battery charged from around 30% to 80% in under 30 minutes, a significant boost in a short amount of time. This was especially impressive considering some third-party charging stations can take longer for similar charging rates.

There were no compatibility issues during the process, and the charging experience felt just as smooth as it would have been for a Tesla owner. The Kia EV9’s digital display also provided real-time updates on the charging status, which was incredibly helpful.

Overall, charging the 2024 Kia EV9 at a Tesla Supercharger was a pleasant experience. The growing integration of non-Tesla vehicles into Tesla’s charging network makes EV ownership even more convenient, offering drivers a more expansive, reliable, and faster charging infrastructure. For Kia EV9 owners, this marks a promising step towards a more seamless electric future.
