The NDC's National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, attacked the ruling NPP over what he termed as the latter's complicity in running Ghana into an economic ditch. Speaking at a news conference Tuesday morning, Gyamfi accused the NPP government of adopting fiscal policies, over-borrowing, and failing to implement pragmatic economic plans that have thrown the country into financial quagmires.

Gyamfi accused the NPP administration of gross mismanagement, pointing at the country's spiraling public debt, which he said has reached unsustainable levels. According to the NDC spokesperson, the inability of the government to control inflation, stabilize the local currency, and manage government expenditure has compounded Ghana's economic woes. He also criticized the government for its decision to seek assistance from the International Monetary Fund, a clear sign of economic collapse.

The NPP has failed to deliver on its promises of economic prosperity and has instead left Ghanaians drowning in debt," Gyamfi said. "They have mortgaged the future of our children by accumulating billions of dollars in loans that they cannot repay. This is the true definition of economic bankruptcy.

He also cited the increasing cost of living, which he said was a product of the failed policies of the NPP. The increasing fuel prices, utility bills, and food prices, according to him, have increased the level of financial burden on Ghanaians, particularly the poor and vulnerable.

He said that change in leadership is needed and mooted economic reforms to be introduced by the next NDC administration, which would lead to the reduction of debt, creation of jobs, and stabilization of the currency.

In response to Gyamfi’s comments, government officials have defended the NPP’s economic management, asserting that the global economic climate, including the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia's invasion of Ukraine, has played a significant role in Ghana's current economic challenges.

Despite these defenses, Gyamfi’s accusations have reignited political debate in the country, as both major parties continue to point fingers over who is responsible for the nation’s economic difficulties.
