Abigail Kwartekaa Quartey is a Ghanaian female boxer, who is currently taking Ghana on the global map in the world of boxing by becoming the first female world boxing champion after appearing triumphantly over Sangeeta Birdie from the United Kingdom last night.
On Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the Bukom Boxing Arena where the match was held, Abigail Quartey conquered Sangeeta Birdie by unanimous decision and made away with the WIBF World Super Bantamweight title.
The ruling was in favour of Abigail after putting up with an outstanding performance to please the judges and fans, all three judges were surprised with her performance and they all scored her the bout 98-91 which earned her the record as the female boxer in the history of Ghana and was crowned a world champion.
Abigail Quartey's career wins have now been extended to nine out of 10 professional matches. Out of her nine fights through knockouts, she has won six and lost one.
The boxer is now ranked number one in Ghana and also ranked 50th in her division out of 170 boxers in the world. She has made a bold statement to the rest of the world with last night’s superb win over the British.
Sangeeta Birdie, the British opponent of Abigail has also won five out of her 12 bouts, four coming by way of knockouts, and her defeat last night marked her seventh defeat in those 12 fights.
Sangeeta Birdie in her previous games has defeated two Ghanaian boxers she fought with. But this time around did not go in her favour as Quartey avenged her sisters from the motherland to write her name in the history books.
The 28-year-old sensation won her first nine professional fights for three years from October 2021, to June 2024, before losing to Anahit Aroyan from Armenia earlier this month. Indeed the boxer is very determined for success.
