Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah, the General Overseer of Glorious Word Power Ministry International, along with two other individuals, Bright Berchie and Mensah Ofori, have been re-arrested following their discharge by the Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday. The three were initially facing charges related to issuing threats of death against Nana Agradaa. The court’s discharge came after state prosecutors, led by Chief Inspector Dennis Terkpetey, requested the release, stating that there were plans to file new charges. Once the court granted this request, the accused were immediately re-arrested.
The three men had been facing charges of threatening death, brandishing weapons, and attacking police officers. They were arrested earlier for these offenses and granted bail two weeks ago in the sum of ¢200,000 each, with two securities. However, the prosecution later substituted the charges, and the accused are now facing new counts of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace and threat of death. Despite the new charges, the three defendants pleaded not guilty.
The case was moved forward with the prosecution's request for a swift and efficient trial. To ensure this, the public prosecutor sought to separate the cases. The court granted the three men new bail terms: Reverend Owusu Bempah was granted self-recognizance bail of ¢100,000, while Berchie and Ofori were granted bail of ¢100,000 each, with two securities. Additionally, Reverend Owusu Bempah is facing another case related to charges of causing harm and unlawful damage to a police vehicle. In this case, he was granted bail of ¢400,000 alongside his co-accused, Michael Boateng, Frederick Ohene, and Nathaniel Agyekum.
The legal proceedings involving Reverend Owusu Bempah and his associates have attracted significant public attention. While the re-arrest and the new charges bring a renewed focus on the case, the trial will proceed as the prosecution seeks to resolve the matter in a timely and efficient manner. The outcome of the trial remains uncertain as the accused have denied all allegations, and their defense will continue in court.
