Court dismisses Adom Kyei-Duah’s defamation case against Kumawood actor Sean Paul.

Prophet Adom Kyei-Duah is a Ghanaian Christian evangelist and the founder of  Believers Worship Centre and  Second Chance TV, a religious television network. He is widely known for his preaching, healing services, and other spiritual activities that attract a significant following.

Prophet Kyei-Duah gained prominence for his focus on deliverance and prophetic messages, often addressing spiritual and social issues. He is also known for offering specific items, such as  anointing oil, salt, and  hibiscus juice (locally called "sobolo"), to his congregation for spiritual purposes, which has drawn both support and criticism. His practices have sparked debates about the commercialization of religious activities, especially in Ghana.

Through his church and media platforms, he continues to influence many within and beyond the Christian community in Ghana.

The Asokore Mampong District Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Esther Rida, has dismissed the defamation case involving Prophet Adom Kyei-Duah, founder of the Believers Worship Centre and Second Chance TV, and Kumawood actor Sean Paul.

The case stemmed from accusations made by Prophet Adom Kyei-Duah in July 2024, when he reported Sean Paul to the police for alleged defamation. The accusations arose after Sean Paul, during an interview on RTV, criticized the prophet for selling items like hibiscus juice ("sobolo") and other products in his church for spiritual purposes.

Sean Paul described these practices as exploitative, a scam, and a form of “daylight robbery,” sparking controversy. In response, Prophet Adom Kyei-Duah filed a defamation complaint, which led to Sean Paul’s arrest on July 15, 2024, and subsequent charges.

Following his initial court appearance, Sean Paul was remanded in custody. However, his legal team successfully appealed to a High Court, securing his bail. Despite this, he continued to attend hearings at the Asokore Mampong District Court.

When Her Ladyship Esther Rida took over the case, she raised concerns about its handling. She highlighted the case's unusual transfer between jurisdictions and questioned why a matter typically resolved as a civil dispute was being pursued criminally.

After a thorough review, the judge dismissed the case. Reports also suggest that Her Ladyship Rida has similarly struck out other cases with questionable merit brought before her court.
