Jude Bellingham Lauds Liverpool After Real Madrid Defeat: "They're the Best Team in Europe"

Jude Bellingham offered a candid assessment of Real Madrid's 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League, conceding that the Spanish giants were outclassed by the "best team in Europe" at present. The England international, who has been one of the standout players for Real Madrid this season, admitted that his side was second best throughout the encounter at Anfield, as Liverpool maintained their perfect record in the competition.

Liverpool, who are top of the Premier League and have won all five of their Champions League group stage matches, produced an authoritative performance to secure a crucial three points. Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring early, and Cody Gakpo sealed the win late on after a missed penalty from Kylian Mbappé and another squandered spot-kick from Mohamed Salah. For Bellingham, the result was a tough pill to swallow, but he was quick to acknowledge the quality of the opposition.

Reflecting on the game with TNT Sports, Bellingham said, "From the first minute, they just took control. We never maximized the spells we had in possession. We tried to force the counter too many times, turned the ball over so much, and they just kept control." The 21-year-old midfielder added that while it was disappointing for Real Madrid to lose, he took solace in the fact that Liverpool's performance was a testament to their current status as the best team in Europe. "It’s probably a bad result against the best performing team in Europe, so it's no disgrace to come here and lose," Bellingham explained. "But we are disappointed in how we performed. We need to use this loss in the right way. We've got three games left, and it's important we win those."

Bellingham's praise for Liverpool was underscored by his belief that his side's individual mistakes and lack of cohesion contributed more to the loss than any single moment, such as Mbappé’s missed penalty. The French superstar, who had the chance to equalize with the score at 1-0, saw his spot-kick saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. Despite the miss, Bellingham was quick to defend his teammate, insisting that Mbappé should not shoulder the blame for the defeat. "It’s a big moment in the game, but it can happen," he said. "Kylian can keep his head high. I know for sure that he will produce many more huge moments for this club."

For Real Madrid, this loss is part of a concerning run of results in the Champions League this season. With three group-stage games left to play, Bellingham and his teammates will need to find form quickly if they are to progress to the knockout rounds. Despite the defeat, Bellingham remains confident that the squad can bounce back, though he knows they must improve to meet the high standards set by Liverpool.
