According to him, his "1 student 1 Tablet" is a game-changing development, aimed at equipping the students with the relevant materials for their studies.
Speaking at a program at the University of Ghana Legon, Dr bawumia again promised to make free internet accessible to both the second cycle and tertiary institutions to improve teaching and learning.
-*Fast Forward To Today November 2024*-
Dr. Bawumia's promise to provide free tablets to Senior High School students has been a topic of discussion for over a year now. The promise was made in January 2023, during the New Year School event at the University of Ghana, where Dr. Bawumia announced that the government would provide each Senior High School student with a tablet loaded with educational materials.
In June 2024, Vice President Dr. Bawumia went ahead to launch the deployment of the smart tablets for students of Opoku Ware Senior High School in the Ashanti region.
However, it seems that the rollout of the tablets has become a game of deception; also termed "Crocro-De-John"; and leaving many parents, students, and Ghanaians wondering when the promise will be fulfilled.
It is more than one year, after that big promise... the frequent question parents, Senior High Students and Ghanaians as a whole asked is; Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia...where are the promised Electronic Tablets, and where are the free wifi for all second cycle and tertiary institutions?
The ancient adage echoes through the corridors of time: "Promises are the uniquely human way of ordering the future." Indeed, making promises is an effortless endeavor, a mere utterance of words. However, it is the fulfillment of these promises that separates the virtuous from the vain.
In the realm of politics, promises are the currency of governance. Leaders peddle promises to garner trust, to inspire hope, and to secure power. Yet, it is the redemption of these promises that ultimately defines their legacy.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana, is no exception to this maxim. His promises, are subject to the scrutiny of time. The true measure of his leadership lies not in the grandeur of his promises but in the diligence of their fulfillment.
Dr. Bawumia's legacy will be defined not by the promises he made but by the promises he kept. Will he be remembered as a leader who bridged the chasm between promise and fulfillment, or will he be relegated to the annals of history as a leader who failed to deliver on his lofty promises? Only time will tell.
