Ghanaian actor and broadcaster Mikki Osei-Berko, known for iconic roles like Kokonsa on Radio Gold, Dada Boat, and Master Richard, has hinted at a possible return to politics. In an interview with Joy Prime’s Roselyn Felli, Mikki revealed that he might consider running for parliament. When asked about this possibility, he responded, “Probably yes.”
Mikki, who served as an Assembly Member for the Ayidiki Electoral Area in Accra about two decades ago, expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of governance in Ghana. He criticized the lack of creativity in leadership, stating, “Governance in this country has not been so creative. They only take taxes and borrow money. But I feel that there are opportunities that can bring the country money and sustain the citizenry through creativity and business-oriented governance.”
Reflecting on his time as an Assembly Member, Mikki shared that his decision to enter politics was guided by divine inspiration. “I went as an independent candidate on the direction of God. I didn’t even think about it with anybody. I took the decision on the inspiration of God. I contested, and everybody thought I couldn’t win, but I won,” he recounted.
However, Mikki’s tenure was cut short due to educational pursuits. “Even before the term ended, I had the opportunity to go outside to school. I went to the New York Film Academy to study film production, so before the term ended, I had to go. I thought it was better to educate myself and come back a better person than just remain in politics,” he explained.
Despite leaving politics to focus on his personal and professional growth, Mikki remains a beloved figure in Ghana’s entertainment industry. His contributions to radio, television, and film have earned him admiration for his versatility and humor.
As he contemplates a potential return to politics, Mikki Osei-Berko appears motivated by a desire to bring innovation and creativity to governance, leveraging his diverse experiences to make a meaningful impact on Ghana’s development.
