The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Gomoa West, Hon. Bismark Baisie Nkum, is leading an ambitious charge to combat unemployment among the youth in the district. Speaking at a community forum earlier today, the DCE unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at providing job opportunities in agriculture and entrepreneurship. The forum, held at Apam, drew enthusiastic participation from local leaders, youth groups, and stakeholders.
Hon. Nkum emphasized that youth unemployment remains one of the district’s most pressing challenges. He revealed that the new initiatives are designed to empower the youth with practical skills and resources, enabling them to venture into agribusiness and start their own enterprises. “Our district is blessed with fertile land and untapped potential in agriculture. We want to equip our youth with the tools to capitalize on these opportunities and create sustainable livelihoods,” he stated.
One of the flagship programs, according to the DCE, is the "Youth in Agriculture Initiative," which will provide training in modern farming techniques, access to land, and financial support for young farmers. In collaboration with agricultural extension officers, the district assembly plans to offer workshops and mentorship to ensure participants succeed in their ventures.
Additionally, the DCE highlighted plans to support youth entrepreneurship through a new business incubation program. This initiative will offer startup capital, training in business management, and mentorship from successful entrepreneurs. Hon. Nkum stressed that this program is designed to foster creativity and innovation among the youth, helping them turn their ideas into profitable businesses.
Community members expressed optimism about these programs. “This is what we have been waiting for. Our youth need support, and these initiatives will help reduce poverty in our district,” said Nana Kwaku Amo, a community leader.
However, some participants raised concerns about the sustainability of the programs and whether the promised resources would be equitably distributed. Hon. Nkum assured attendees that transparency and accountability would be prioritized.
