John Peter Amewu, the Member of Parliament for Hohoe, has officially opened a 7,000-seater stadium in Hohoe, Volta Region, marking a significant achievement in the region's sports infrastructure. This development is particularly important as the region has produced many talented athletes who have represented Ghana on the international stage. Amewu shared that the idea for the stadium began back in 2005 when he was the Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive during the tenure of former President John Agyekum Kufuor. He recalled how he initially received a personal gift of 120,000 concrete blocks meant for a hotel project. However, Amewu saw the potential for a greater cause and decided to repurpose the blocks to build the stadium, which would serve the entire community. Although the project faced setbacks after his tenure ended in 2008, it was revived after the New Patriotic Party returned to power in 2016.

Amewu highlighted the collective effort that brought the stadium to life, acknowledging the crucial support of local communities, traditional leaders, and private individuals. He expressed gratitude to people such as Togbe Adzema and the late Gbi Paramount Chief Togbega Gabusu for their roles in overcoming challenges related to land acquisition and funding. The MP also emphasized that the stadium is not just an infrastructure project but a symbol of unity and a tool for nurturing sporting talent in Hohoe and the broader Volta Region. He pointed out that local athletes are already being noticed by national and international scouts, with one player receiving a call-up to the national team. Additionally, two others are in the process of being sent to Poland, further demonstrating the potential of the region’s talent.

The stadium, which has a capacity of 7,000 seats and can accommodate up to 10,000 spectators with standing room, is nearing completion. According to Amewu, about 90% of the construction is finished, with the VIP stand still under development. He reassured the public that the stadium would be fully completed by the first quarter of the following year. Amewu expressed pride in the project, calling it a testament to the power of collaboration and shared vision. He acknowledged the contribution of the people of Hohoe, stating that this achievement is the result of their passion for sports and their dedication to seeing the project through.
