The Electoral Commission (EC) of the Savannah Region has successfully completed the deployment of essential electoral materials, including Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) and ballot papers, to the seven constituencies in the region. This significant operation, which took place on November 29, 2024, was conducted at the Savannah Regional Police Headquarters, under tight security measures. The process, supervised by representatives from various political parties, aimed to ensure the smooth distribution of materials for the upcoming elections. A total of 1,475 BVDs and 353,390 ballot papers were distributed across the region, with each constituency receiving a designated portion based on their population and electoral requirements. The distribution included Bole-Bamboi, Yapei-Kusawgu, North Gonja, Salaga North, Salaga South, Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, and Damongo, which are all critical constituencies in the region.
The Savannah Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Johnson Akafia, along with seven district officers, oversaw the deployment to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the materials being distributed. In order to maintain full transparency, the process was conducted with close monitoring from both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), two of Ghana's leading political parties. These party representatives, Dr. Niama Abdulai of the NDC and Saburu Kantama of the NPP, were present to observe the process, and both expressed their satisfaction with the professionalism and accuracy exhibited by the Electoral Commission. Their presence was a vital step in assuring the public of the impartiality of the election preparations.
The deployment exercise was not just about the delivery of materials but also about maintaining a high level of security and preventing any disruptions. Heavy security patrols were observed during the deployment to safeguard the electoral materials from potential threats. This initiative was especially important in ensuring that the process was not only accurate but also secure. Both political parties, which are often at the center of electoral disputes, commended the EC for its careful handling of the situation. The EC’s efforts have been hailed as an important step toward ensuring that the upcoming elections in the Savannah Region are fair, transparent, and devoid of any electoral fraud or malpractice. This process marks a key milestone in the country's election preparations, reinforcing the trust and confidence in Ghana's democratic system.
