Kuami Eugene, a celebrated highlife musician, has credited the church for playing a pivotal role in shaping his musical career. The talented artist revealed that his journey began in church, where he nurtured his musical abilities by learning to play various instruments.
Speaking with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM's Showbiz A-Z, Kuami Eugene expressed gratitude to the church for laying the foundation of his artistry. “The church made me. I learned everything I know from the church,” he shared. “When I was young, I knew I would become a great musician. So, I prepared myself thoroughly. I ensured I could play every musical instrument I laid my hands on.” He further noted that he taught himself how to play the piano by observing and practicing.
In addition to the piano, Kuami Eugene is proficient in playing the trumpet, drums, and guitar. His passion for music drove him to master these instruments without formal lessons. Beyond his instrumental skills, Kuami highlighted his dedication to enhancing his stage performances, mentioning that he even learned how to do backflips to add excitement to his shows.
Kuami Eugene’s music career started in the gospel genre under the Eugene Marfo Ministries. Before gaining widespread recognition, he produced several gospel songs, showcasing his deep roots in church music. His big break came after participating in the MTN Hitmaker contest, which catapulted him to fame. Despite transitioning to secular music, Kuami continues to acknowledge the influence of the church in his journey.
He maintains strong ties with the gospel music community, having collaborated with artists such as Joyce Blessing, Empress Gifty, and Obaapa Christy. Kuami has also written songs for gospel musicians and frequently performs gospel songs at church events. This connection reflects his enduring respect for the spiritual foundation that shaped his career.
To further his skills, Kuami Eugene pursued a course in music production, which has allowed him to hone his craft and contribute more effectively to his projects. Known for hits like Angela, he remains one of Ghana's most versatile and accomplished musicians.
