Despite Barcelona defeating Real Madrid 4-0 at the Bernabeu and Los Blanco's shaky defence of their Champions League trophy so far, Barca head coach Hansi Flick finds Carlo Ancelotti's side back on their case in La Liga.

In fact, the 2-1 home defeat to Las Palmas at Camp Nou leaves them just one point above Real at the top of the table, and the Madrid outfit have a game in hand with which they can overtake the Catalonians.

Flick was detailed but calm when addressing the situation, the Las Palmas defeat and the immediate future when addressing the media over the weekend, postmatch.

"We failed in pressing," explained the German, "we could not close spaces as a block and attack the gaps.

"That is something we need to improve."

The high line and relentless pressing style adopted by the coach has yielded great results but also had critics wondering if it would take its toll in the long run.

"The team has given a lot; in the midfield, we have had a lot of intensity and dominance," said Flick.

"We created opportunities. We have not been effective, and that's something we need to learn to improve upon."
