BREAKING NEWS: Techiman People Attack Otumfuo’s Entourage in Techiman; Cars Damaged, People Injured

In a shocking turn of events, members of the Techiman community allegedly attacked the convoy of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during his visit to Techiman earlier today. The incident, which occurred around midday, has left several cars in the royal entourage damaged, with reports of injuries to some members of the convoy.

According to eyewitness accounts, the tension began as Otumfuo’s convoy entered Techiman for a scheduled courtesy call on the Techiman Traditional Council. Sources say the convoy was met with resistance from a section of the youth who blocked the road and began hurling objects, including stones and sticks, at the vehicles.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but unconfirmed reports suggest it could be linked to long-standing tensions between the Ashanti Kingdom and the Techiman Traditional Area over territorial and cultural disputes. Some residents believe the visit was poorly timed given the delicate relations between the two groups.

Several vehicles, including a luxury SUV believed to be Otumfuo’s official car, were damaged in the chaos. Security personnel had to intervene, firing warning shots to disperse the crowd and secure the safety of Otumfuo and his entourage. It is reported that the Asantehene was unharmed and has since been relocated to a secure location.

In a statement released shortly after the incident, the Techiman Traditional Council condemned the actions of the youth, describing the attack as an affront to Ghanaian customs and traditions. "This incident does not reflect the values of hospitality and respect that the people of Techiman are known for. We will cooperate with security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice," the statement read.

The Asantehene’s Secretariat has yet to issue an official statement, but sources close to the royal palace described the attack as "a grave act of disrespect to Otumfuo and the Ashanti Kingdom."

Police in the Bono East Region have launched an investigation into the matter. Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Owusu, confirmed that several suspects have been arrested and are assisting with investigations. "We are committed to ensuring peace and stability in Techiman and will not tolerate acts of violence that threaten the security of our citizens and visitors," he said.

This unfortunate incident has drawn widespread condemnation from across the country, with many Ghanaians taking to social media to express their shock and disappointment. Calls for calm and reconciliation between the two traditional areas are growing louder as leaders and stakeholders work to prevent further escalation.

As this story unfolds, the nation will be watching closely for updates on the investigation and steps taken by traditional leaders to mend the fractured relationship between the two kingdoms.
