Ayawaso Central Heats Up as NPP and NDC Intensify Final Campaigns
As the December 2024 general elections approach, Ayawaso Central has become a hotspot of political activity, with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ramping up their final campaigns to win over voters. The constituency, known for its vibrant political landscape, is witnessing an unprecedented level of engagement as both parties leave no stone unturned in their quest to secure victory.
The NPP has centered its campaign around achievements under its leadership, emphasizing economic growth, improved healthcare infrastructure, and educational reforms. At a recent rally in Kokomlemle, the NPP parliamentary candidate, Mohammed Amin Adams, promised to expand youth employment initiatives and enhance urban development projects. "Ayawaso Central deserves leadership that delivers results, and we have proven ourselves capable," he said to a cheering crowd.
The party has also deployed grassroots mobilization efforts, with volunteers visiting homes and markets to interact directly with voters. Party supporters clad in the NPP’s blue, white, and red colors have been seen organizing mini-rallies in key areas like Alajo and Nima, highlighting the government's Free SHS program and other flagship policies.
On the other hand, the NDC is positioning itself as the party of change, promising to address the rising cost of living and rebuild trust in governance. The NDC candidate, Dr. Edward Kweku Nana, has vowed to prioritize social welfare programs and tackle unemployment if elected. Speaking at a town hall meeting in Nima, he criticized the NPP's policies, describing them as out of touch with the needs of ordinary Ghanaians.
The NDC campaign has seen heavyweights like former President John Dramani Mahama visiting the constituency to rally support. Door-to-door campaigns and street walks are a daily feature, with party activists advocating for a return to what they call “pro-people policies.”
The heightened activity has also led to some friction between supporters of both parties. A minor clash occurred during a campaign tour in the Alajo area last week, prompting security agencies to step in and restore order. Despite these incidents, both parties have called for calm and pledged to ensure a peaceful election.
Voters in Ayawaso Central are divided, with some lauding the NPP’s infrastructural projects while others believe the NDC offers better prospects for addressing pressing socio-economic challenges. Many are still undecided, making the final days of campaigning critical for both parties.
As election day draws closer, Ayawaso Central remains a constituency to watch. Both the NPP and the NDC are determined to sway the undecided electorate, setting the stage for a tightly contested race that could have significant implications for the national elections.
