Cheapest and Costliest Cities to Travel in Africa And Worldwide

The 2024 Post Office Worldwide Holiday Costs Barometer reveals that prices for meals, drinks, and tourist items have decreased in over 60% of surveyed destinations, with long-haul locations emerging as the most affordable for UK travelers. This year’s report analyzed eight commonly purchased items, including a three-course meal for two, coffee, local beer, cola, wine, water, suncream, and insect repellent. The findings provide valuable insights for budget-conscious travelers looking to maximize their holiday experiences without breaking the bank.

Leading the affordability rankings are long-haul destinations, with Portugal’s Algarve standing out as the only European location in the top five. Other budget-friendly destinations include Vietnam’s Hoi An, South Africa’s Cape Town, and Kenya’s Mombasa, all of which offer great value for money in terms of meals and local tourist products.

Some of the other affordable destinations based on the survey include Japan’s Tokyo, Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh, Bulgaria’s Sunny Beach, and Bali’s Kuta. The report also highlights popular travel spots like Turkey’s Marmaris, Cyprus’s Paphos, and Thailand’s Phuket, which offer excellent deals for visitors. Malaysia’s Penang, India’s Delhi, and Spain’s Costa del Sol also made the list, underscoring their appeal to travelers on a budget.

On the other hand, the most expensive destinations are dominated by luxury European locations. Croatia’s Porec, Italy’s Rome, and France’s Nice are among the priciest cities, with high-end offerings catering to affluent tourists. Tropical destinations like Mauritius’ Grand Baie, Grenada’s St George’s, and Barbados’ Bridgetown also feature on the list, along with US cities like Orlando and New York.

Other expensive destinations include Dubai’s Downtown Dubai, Canada’s Vancouver, and New Zealand’s Auckland, which are known for their premium travel experiences. Mexico’s Cancun, while offering a mix of budget and luxury options, is also considered one of the more costly locations on the list.

The Post Office report offers essential guidance for travelers looking to enjoy their vacations without overspending. Analyzing everyday travel items, it paints a clear picture of where travelers can get the best value and where they may want to reconsider their destination if they are aiming to stay within a specific budget.
