Former Trade and Industry Minister Alan John Kyerematen has assured the people of northern Ghana that he will make the economic transformation and poverty alleviation of the area his number one priority if the people of Ghana entrust him with the leadership of the country. At a rally in Tamale recently, Kyerematen promised to ensure that the northern part of the country gets the attention it deserves in terms of infrastructure, education, and job creation.
Northern Ghana is usually the least developed part of the country and one of the poorest regions. Despite different government interventions over the years, the region has remained backwards in terms of unemployment, health, education facilities, and economic opportunities. Kyerematen, regarded by many as a seasoned politician and business leader, believes sustainable development in northern Ghana is key to reducing the poverty levels that have persisted for decades.
Transforming northern Ghana is not an option; it is an imperative. The untapped resources, youthful population, and agricultural potential of the region can be harnessed to create a more prosperous future," Kyerematen said in his speech. He highlighted plans to boost agricultural productivity through modern technologies, expand access to education and vocational training, and create industrial hubs that will provide jobs for young people.
As part of his development agenda, Kyerematen also emphasized the importance of building critical infrastructure, including roads, healthcare facilities, and energy systems, to attract investment and improve the quality of life for residents in the north. Additionally, he called for the decentralization of resources and decision-making powers to allow local communities to have a more active role in shaping their future.
Kyerematen's vision for northern Ghana tallies with his broader goals of attaining economic prosperity for the whole nation by ensuring that all parts of the country, especially the most deprived areas, become active contributors to the growth of the country.
