Bukayo Saka, Arsenal’s standout performer this season, may not be pleased after his teammate Jorginho revealed a playful and somewhat unflattering nickname given to him in the club’s dressing room. Saka has been instrumental in Arsenal’s pursuit of the Premier League title, with five goals and ten assists to his name, making him the team’s most consistent player. However, despite his stellar performances, Saka has earned a sarcastic nickname from his colleagues.
During an appearance on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Jorginho shared the story behind the nickname, which translates to "Big Foot" in Portuguese. The term "pesudo," a playful reference to having large feet, is often used in Brazil to poke fun at poor ball control or technique. According to Jorginho, it started as a joke among the Arsenal squad, but the irony of the nickname is that Saka’s technical ability is exceptional. “We call him ‘pesudo,’ but it’s a joke because he’s the complete opposite of that,” Jorginho explained, acknowledging Saka’s outstanding skills despite the playful tease.
Ferdinand, who was surprised by the nickname given Saka's skill, was then told by Jorginho how Saka is anything but awkward with the ball. The Italian midfielder praised Saka, calling him "unbelievable" and noting how he’s become a machine for Arsenal, consistently delivering high-level performances. Jorginho also highlighted Saka's character, describing him as a person who "deserves the world" due to his humility and work ethic.
The midfielder’s admiration didn’t stop there. Jorginho revealed his belief that Saka has the potential to win the Ballon d'Or, having finished 21st in this year’s rankings. He expressed his hope for Saka’s success, saying, “I want to see you win the Ballon d’Or," underscoring his belief in the young winger’s talent and ability.
Saka’s performances have been crucial to Arsenal’s rise to second place in the Premier League, keeping them in the title race despite facing a series of injuries. With Saka’s contributions, Arsenal is poised to challenge leaders Liverpool, and if their rivals stumble later in the season, it will be in no small part due to Saka’s continued brilliance on the pitch.
