Real Madrid are reportedly keen on signing Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, but their preference is to wait until he becomes a free agent rather than making a move in January. Alexander-Arnold, who will be out of contract with Liverpool in the summer of 2025, has not yet agreed on a new deal with the club, meaning he will be free to negotiate with other teams in January. Along with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, the right-back is one of the three Liverpool stars whose futures remain uncertain as they near the end of their contracts.

Having come through Liverpool's youth system, Alexander-Arnold has become one of the world’s top full-backs, amassing over 300 appearances for the club and winning both the Premier League and the Champions League. Real Madrid are reportedly "hugely admired" of the 26-year-old and are looking at him as a potential long-term successor to Dani Carvajal, the veteran right-back who is currently sidelined for the season due to an ACL injury.

Although Real Madrid are interested in acquiring Alexander-Arnold, they are not planning to make an approach during the January transfer window. Instead, they are willing to wait until the summer of 2025, when the English defender is available on a free transfer. This strategy could allow the Spanish giants to sign him at a lower cost, as Liverpool would risk losing him for nothing if they fail to agree on a new contract by then.

Alexander-Arnold has been dealing with a hamstring issue in recent matches, which led to his absence in Liverpool’s wins over Southampton and Real Madrid. However, he returned to action for the team’s 2-0 victory over Manchester City. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has been carefully managing his minutes to prevent further injury setbacks. Klopp stated that playing Alexander-Arnold for a full 90 minutes might not be wise for the time being, indicating that he will continue to monitor his recovery closely in the coming games.

While the prospect of leaving on a free transfer remains a concern for Liverpool, Real Madrid’s calculated approach could give them an advantage in securing one of the Premier League’s top talents when he becomes available.
