As the January transfer window approaches, Liverpool has set its sights on several players, including Dutch forward Xavi Simons, who is highly admired by former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag. Simons, currently playing for RB Leipzig on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, has become a prominent figure in the Dutch national team and has drawn significant attention from top clubs, including Liverpool.

Simons’ potential move to Liverpool comes at a time when Mohamed Salah's contract situation remains unresolved. While the Reds don’t necessarily need attacking reinforcements, the uncertainty surrounding Salah’s future has led to speculation linking Liverpool with several forwards. Among the most notable are Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, Lille’s Jonathan David, and Simons. However, it’s the 21-year-old Dutchman who stands out, especially due to the praise he received from Ten Hag.

Ten Hag was particularly impressed by Simons during Euro 2024, especially after his brilliant performance in the semi-final against England, where he scored a memorable goal. Speaking about the youngster, Ten Hag praised Simons' passion, drive, and ability to read the game, highlighting how his style of play contrasts with traditional Dutch techniques, likening it more to a southern European flair.

Simons began his career in Barcelona’s youth ranks before moving to PSG in 2019. After stints with PSV Eindhoven and a return to PSG, he joined Leipzig, where he has enjoyed success, registering two goals and one assist in his first seven starts for the 2024/2025 season. His performances have made him an attractive prospect for several top European clubs, with Liverpool reportedly one of the front-runners for his signature if he leaves PSG next summer.

The Athletic reports that Liverpool also has an interest in Jonathan David, who will become a free agent in the summer, and Nico Williams, who could be available in 2025. However, Liverpool’s primary focus may shift toward other areas of the squad, especially with Ryan Gravenberch’s strong performances in midfield.

Meanwhile, Salah’s situation remains uncertain, with the Egyptian star still not having been offered an extension to his contract, which expires in 2025. Despite this, Salah has continued to shine, with an impressive 13 goals and 11 assists this season, keeping Liverpool in contention for major honors.
