Veteran Ghanaian actress Grace Omaboe, popularly known as Maame Dokono, has dismissed rumors suggesting she had a romantic relationship with the late former President Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings. She addressed these speculations during a press launch for her upcoming memoir held at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra on July 30, 2024. The event, dubbed "By the Fireside," marked her 80th birthday and celebrated her 60-year acting career.
During her speech, Maame Dokono firmly denied the rumors, describing them as baseless. “Some said they heard that I was the girlfriend of President Rawlings. Who is that person? Ah. I was never the girlfriend of President Rawlings,” she stated, clarifying that their relationship was never romantic.
She also used the occasion to reflect on her political involvement, which began through an introduction by the late Rawlings’ wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings. Maame Dokono recounted the challenges she faced during her political journey.
