Freedom Party Endorses NDC Ahead of Election 2024
In a surprising political development, the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has officially endorsed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming 2024 general elections. This announcement was made during a press conference held in Accra, where GFP founder and leader, Madam Akua Donkor, passionately expressed her belief in the NDC’s vision for Ghana.
Madam Akua Donkor praised the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s presidential candidate, describing him as a visionary leader who has the welfare of ordinary Ghanaians at heart. According to her, the NDC’s policies align closely with the values and aspirations of the Ghana Freedom Party, particularly in addressing issues of poverty, education, and national unity.
“The National Democratic Congress has consistently demonstrated its commitment to the ordinary Ghanaian. As a party, the GFP believes in putting the people first, and we see in the NDC a partner who can help us achieve this dream,” Madam Akua Donkor stated.
The GFP leader also took the opportunity to urge her supporters across the country to rally behind the NDC to ensure a resounding victory in the December polls. “This election is about the future of Ghana. It’s about ensuring that our children and future generations live in a country where opportunities are abundant, and no one is left behind,” she added.
The endorsement is expected to bolster the NDC’s campaign efforts, particularly in rural constituencies where the GFP has a modest but loyal following. Analysts suggest that while the GFP’s overall influence on the election outcome may be limited, its endorsement sends a strong message of unity among opposition parties determined to unseat the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Reacting to the endorsement, the NDC’s General Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey, expressed gratitude to the GFP for their support, calling it a testament to the growing confidence in the NDC’s ability to govern. “This partnership is a reflection of the shared vision we have for this country. Together, we will work tirelessly to bring the change that Ghanaians are yearning for,” he said.
As the political climate heats up ahead of the elections, the GFP’s endorsement of the NDC is likely to stir conversations among political analysts and voters alike. Whether this alliance will translate into tangible electoral gains for the NDC remains to be seen, but it undoubtedly adds another layer of intrigue to the 2024 race.
