2024 Polls: Vote for Bawumia; We’ve Tried Mahama, Given Him All the Chances but He Failed – Kofi Bentil
In the buildup to Ghana's highly anticipated 2024 general elections, Kofi Bentil, a leading political commentator and Vice President of IMANI Africa, has made a compelling case for voters to consider Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the nation's next leader. Speaking during a recent interview, Bentil emphasized the need for a fresh approach to leadership, citing the track record of former President John Dramani Mahama as evidence of the need for change.
According to Bentil, Ghanaians have had ample opportunity to evaluate Mahama's leadership over his years in office, but his performance left much to be desired. “We’ve tried John Mahama; we’ve given him all the chances,” he remarked, “but unfortunately, he failed to deliver on the core promises of development and economic transformation.”
Kofi Bentil acknowledged that while Mahama’s leadership brought some infrastructural developments, the challenges of corruption, economic mismanagement, and a lack of innovative solutions plagued his administration. He urged voters to weigh the evidence of past leadership against the aspirations for Ghana’s future.
Turning his focus to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Bentil highlighted the Vice President’s achievements in digitization, financial inclusion, and economic policy. “Bawumia represents a new wave of leadership that is data-driven, results-oriented, and forward-looking,” he stated. He pointed to initiatives such as the digitization of Ghana’s economy, mobile money interoperability, and efforts to streamline government services as examples of Bawumia’s competence.
Bentil argued that Dr. Bawumia’s understanding of economic challenges and innovative solutions could place Ghana on the path to sustainable development. “Leadership is about solving problems, and Dr. Bawumia has demonstrated the capacity to tackle some of the most complex issues facing our nation,” he said.
The political analyst also called on Ghanaians to prioritize policies and track records over party loyalty. “This election should not be about NPP or NDC; it should be about who can lead Ghana into a prosperous future,” Bentil stressed.
As the December 2024 polls draw closer, the debate over the best candidate for Ghana intensifies. While the NDC is rallying behind Mahama for a comeback, Kofi Bentil’s call for support for Dr. Bawumia reflects the growing sentiment among some Ghanaians for a leadership shift.
The decision ultimately rests with the electorate. However, Bentil’s endorsement underscores the importance of evaluating candidates based on merit, vision, and the ability to deliver meaningful change.
