what happened to Harry Kane
Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany remains optimistic regarding Harry Kane's potential return to action despite the England captain suffering a limp exit during Saturday's Bundesliga draw against Borussia Dortmund. While it has been confirmed that Kane will miss Bayern's upcoming German Cup encounter against defending champions Bayer Leverkusen, Kompany believes that the striker could make a comeback before the winter break, which begins on December 22.
Kompany shared his insights during a press briefing on Monday, saying, There's a chance he'll play again this year, but he'll definitely miss a few games. Kane has had a remarkable start to the season, netting 20 goals in 19 appearances across all competitions. His absence is undoubtedly significant, yet Kompany expressed confidence in his squad's ability to adapt and fill the void left by the star striker.
“You cannot replace the goals or the player one-for-one—that’s why he is a top player,” Kompany emphasized. However, he noted that Bayern has sufficient talent within its ranks to manage during Kane's recovery. He mentioned options like Thomas Muller, Mathys Tel, Serge Gnabry, Michael Olise, and Leroy Sane, highlighting the depth of skill within the team. “I have named almost everyone,” he added, showcasing the variety of attacking potential at his disposal.
Kompany didn't overlook Kane's impressive tally but reassured fans that Bayern boasts other capable goal-scorers, including Jamal Musiala. We have enough players who can fulfill the role, even if you can't replace his goals one-to-one, Kompany stated, indicating a collective effort is needed in the coming weeks.
Looking ahead to the German Cup, which Bayern has struggled to navigate in recent seasons, Kompany acknowledged the challenge posed by Leverkusen. Bayern has not reached the semi-finals since winning the competition in 2020, having exited in the second round in three of the last four seasons. Now facing a Leverkusen team fresh off a league and cup double, Kompany highlighted the importance of the upcoming match. We play the cup holders—one of the top two or three teams in Germany—and I hope our performance will match the importance of the game, he said, setting the tone for a high-stakes encounter.
With Kane's return uncertain and the German Cup looming, Bayern Munich will need to rally its collective talent to face the challenges ahead.
