The Transport Operators Association of Ghana has announced a 15% increase in transport fares, effective Thursday, December 5, 2024. This decision was made in response to the continuous rise in fuel prices, which has resulted in increasing operational costs for transport operators.

According to a statement released by the association on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, the fare increment has become necessary to ensure the viability of their operations and continued service delivery. The association appealed to the public to bear with them during this challenging period, emphasizing that the adjustment is critical to sustaining their operations.

The Transport Operators Association also took the opportunity to caution drivers not to succumb to intimidation or undue pressure from individuals or groups seeking to prevent the implementation of the fare increment. The association noted that in the past, certain leadership members from their umbrella organizations have allowed government officials to influence the withdrawal of fare adjustments. However, they are resolute in their decision this time around.

The association urged all Ghanaians to support the adjustment and appreciate the need for a sustainable transport system amidst the prevailing economic conditions. With the festive season approaching, commuters are advised to budget accordingly to accommodate the fare increase. The statement concluded by encouraging all Ghanaians to participate peacefully in the upcoming general elections on December 7, 2024.

The fare increase is expected to affect commuters across the country, with many expressing concerns about the impact on their daily expenses. The Transport Operators Association has assured the public that they will continue to work towards providing safe and reliable transportation services despite the challenges posed by the rising fuel costs.

The association has also urged the government to consider implementing measures to stabilize fuel prices and reduce the burden on transport operators. Additionally, commuters are advised to report any instances of overcharging or exploitation by transport operators to the relevant authorities. By working together, the association hopes to maintain a fair and sustainable transport system for all Ghanaians.
