EC to Provide Regular Media Briefings on Election Day

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced its intention to hold regular media briefings on Saturday, December 7, as part of efforts to ensure transparency and provide timely updates during the 2024 general elections. This proactive measure aims to keep Ghanaians well-informed about the electoral process, outcomes, and any emerging issues as the nation heads to the polls.

According to the EC, the media briefings will serve as an official communication channel to address concerns, dispel rumors, and provide clarity on the electoral process. These briefings will be held at the EC’s Election Command Centre at regular intervals throughout the day, starting in the morning and continuing until the conclusion of voting and the collation of results.

Ensuring Transparency and Credibility
In a statement released ahead of the elections, the EC underscored its commitment to delivering a free, fair, and transparent electoral process. The Commission noted that these media engagements are part of broader measures to boost public confidence in the election and counter misinformation.

The briefings will feature key EC officials, who will provide updates on the voting process, turnout statistics, and any reported challenges. Accredited journalists will have the opportunity to ask questions, ensuring that all stakeholders remain informed.

Public Expectations
Ghanaians have lauded the EC’s decision to prioritize transparency and frequent communication during the elections. Many citizens view the regular updates as a vital step toward ensuring the credibility of the polls, particularly given the heightened political tensions and the critical nature of the 2024 elections.

Stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organizations, and the international community, have also welcomed the initiative. Observers see it as a testament to the EC’s resolve to uphold its constitutional mandate and foster trust in the electoral process.

Security Measures in Place
The EC has assured the public of its collaboration with security agencies to maintain peace and order during the election. In addition to providing updates on voting activities, the briefings may also include information about security situations at polling centers across the country.

With just two days to the elections, political parties, candidates, and voters are gearing up for what promises to be one of Ghana’s most closely contested elections in recent history.
