ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, who is the Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service has declared that the police will deploy two helicopters to monitor rallies held by the two major political parties we have which are the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This was revealed today in a press briefing, where ACP Ansah-Akrofi elucidated that following discussions with the two parties, the police have implemented various security measures, including road diversions and roadblocks, to ensure law and order and to protect all participants, commuters, and the general public.
Inspector General of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare who is the leader of the National Election Security Taskforce (NESTF), has initiated an additional layer of security by providing two helicopters for aerial surveillance of the rally grounds.
Making her statement she said, “The helicopters will offer a panoramic view of the rally areas, enabling police to monitor crowd dynamics and identify potential security threats.”
ACP Ansah-Akrofi emphasized that this initiative is designed to enhance safety and allow for real-time monitoring of activities, helping to identify any suspicious behaviour that may require police intervention.
The Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service reassured the public that the NESTF is fully prepared and committed to overseeing every aspect of the rallies, despite their proximity.
ACP Ansah-Akrofi further noted that aerial surveillance will enable the police to track crowd movements, density, and behaviour, allowing them to anticipate and prevent potential issues effectively.
The Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service reassured the public of the Police Services to commit to maintaining peace, security, and order during the rallies and beyond.
This assurance follows a visit by IGP DR George Akufo Dampare, together with the Police Management Board (POMAB) and the Greater Accra Regional Command to inspect the rally grounds and ensure the safety of supporters and attendees.
