Fetish Priest Injures Himself Testing Bulletproof Charm
A local herbalist in Kuchibuyi Village, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), sustained severe injuries on November 23, 2024, while testing the effectiveness of a self-made ‘bulletproof’ charm. The incident occurred during an ill-advised experiment where the herbalist, identified as Usman, used a homemade gun to test his charm’s alleged protective powers. Unfortunately, the charm failed, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
According to FCT Police spokesperson, Adeh, officers from the Byazhin Division were alerted and promptly responded to the scene. They found Usman in critical condition and rushed him to Kubwa General Hospital for emergency care. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for further treatment.
Following the incident, the police conducted a thorough search of Usman’s home. They recovered the homemade gun used in the experiment and a collection of charms believed to be part of his practice. The discovery has raised concerns about the proliferation of illegal firearms and the reckless use of unverified traditional practices.
The police have launched an investigation into the matter, with Usman expected to face multiple charges, including unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide. These charges fall under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria, which addresses both the misuse of firearms and actions endangering one’s life.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, condemned the incident, emphasizing the dangers of such reckless behavior. “This situation illustrates the serious risks of engaging in dangerous and unlawful practices. We strongly advise the community to avoid such acts that endanger lives and public safety,” he stated.
The incident has sparked public debate over the risks associated with some traditional practices and the dangers of accessing illegal firearms. Authorities are using this case to raise awareness about the importance of adhering to safety regulations and seeking legitimate medical solutions rather than relying on unverified traditional methods.
