Manchester City ended their recent frustrating run with a dominant 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, breaking a seven-game winless streak in the process. After enduring a series of disappointing results, including six defeats and a frustrating 3-3 draw with Feyenoord, City’s relief at securing all three points was palpable.
The hosts took control early, with two first-half goals putting them in a strong position. Bernardo Silva opened the scoring in the eighth minute, tapping in from close range after a well-worked team move. Kevin de Bruyne, City's star playmaker, doubled the lead with a stunning strike, sending the team into the break with a comfortable advantage.
The second half saw City add a third, as Jeremy Doku scored 12 minutes after the restart. The goal was a well-taken finish that ensured the game was beyond reach for Forest. Despite the positive result, City’s performance was not flawless. There were several miscontrols and misplaced passes that hinted at lingering issues in their play.
Nottingham Forest did have a clear opportunity to get back into the match, however. In a moment that could have dramatically changed the outcome, Chris Wood found himself in a one-on-one situation after a misjudged pass from de Bruyne. With only City goalkeeper Ederson to beat, it seemed inevitable that Forest would reduce the deficit. However, Wood failed to capitalize on the chance, rolling the shot wide when it seemed easier to score. Had he converted, the game might have taken on a very different tone, with City’s nerves potentially fraying as they clung to their slim lead.
Ultimately, City’s return to winning ways was vital, and the three points were a much-needed confidence booster for manager Pep Guardiola and his players. While there were areas of their performance to improve, particularly in maintaining possession and cutting out mistakes, the victory allowed them to put their recent struggles behind them and focus on the challenges ahead.
