Bawumia commissions E-GATE at Kotoka International Airport

On December 3, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia officially launched the E-GATE system at Kotoka International Airport, marking a significant step towards modernizing Ghana’s air travel infrastructure. The new system is designed to provide passengers with a smoother and more efficient arrival process, significantly reducing turnaround time at the airport.

The E-GATE system is equipped with cutting-edge technology that automates the immigration process, allowing passengers to pass through immigration checks quickly. By streamlining the entry process, it is expected to alleviate congestion at the airport, making the experience more convenient for travelers. This technological advancement also aims to enhance security, as it will help to identify and track potential security risks, such as individuals attempting to enter the country illegally.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted that the introduction of the E-GATE system is a key milestone in Ghana’s ongoing digital revolution. He emphasized that the system will not only improve efficiency at Kotoka International Airport but will also be expanded to other major airports across the country in the near future. The rollout of this system reflects the government's commitment to leveraging digital technology to improve services in various sectors, particularly in enhancing border security and simplifying processes for travelers.

The introduction of the E-GATE system is expected to be a game-changer for Ghana's air travel experience, aligning with global best practices and contributing to the modernization of the country's airport infrastructure. The system is a significant step forward in transforming the country’s immigration and border control operations, which will ultimately benefit both local and international travelers.

In his address during the launch, Dr. Bawumia also emphasized that the E-GATE system will help the government better manage the movement of people at the borders and enhance the country's security measures. He noted that such technological advancements are in line with Ghana’s vision of becoming a leading digital economy in Africa.

With the success of the system at Kotoka International Airport, the plan is to roll it out at other key airports, making it a nationwide initiative. This move is expected to further boost Ghana's reputation as a modern, digitally advanced nation on the African continent.
