John Dramani Mahama, the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has wrapped up his nationwide #Mahama4Change2024 campaign tour. The journey, which took him to all 16 regions of Ghana, ended on a high note in the Ejisu constituency in the Ashanti Region. Supporters turned out in large numbers to listen to his vision for Ghana’s future, signaling growing enthusiasm for his leadership.
Throughout the campaign, Mahama carried a message of hope, progress, and transformation. He focused on addressing the challenges facing Ghanaians and promised that his government would work tirelessly to improve lives. As the country heads to the polls on December 7, Mahama has urged Ghanaians to embrace change and reject what he described as the failed leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mahama expressed optimism about the NDC’s chances in the upcoming election, pledging to bring about real change that directly benefits every Ghanaian. His campaign was centered on infrastructure development, improved education, better healthcare, and economic policies aimed at lifting ordinary citizens out of hardship.
“Everywhere I go, I see the potential of our people and the opportunities waiting to be tapped in our communities,” Mahama said. “The NDC is ready to turn this potential into progress. Together, we can build a better Ghana.”
One of the key issues Mahama addressed during his campaign was the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, which has been a hot topic in recent years. The NPP accused Mahama of planning to abolish the program if elected, but he dismissed these claims as baseless propaganda. Mahama made it clear that his government would not only continue the Free SHS policy but also improve and expand it.
“These accusations are just a desperate attempt by the NPP to distract voters from their own failures,” he said. “We are not here to take away opportunities; we are here to make them better. The Free SHS program is important, and under my leadership, it will be enhanced to ensure every child gets the best education possible.”
Mahama also spoke about the need for responsible leadership, accusing the ruling party of running out of ideas and failing to deliver on its promises. He said the NPP’s tenure has been marked by broken promises, economic mismanagement, and a lack of vision, leaving Ghanaians to suffer the consequences.
“This election is a defining moment for our country,” he stated. “It is time for Ghanaians to choose a government that listens, a government that delivers, and a government that cares about the well-being of its people.”
During his tour of the Western Region, Mahama addressed the issue of illegal small-scale mining, commonly known as galamsey, which has severely damaged Ghana’s environment. Speaking to residents in Prestea, he emphasized the importance of promoting responsible mining practices that protect lands and water bodies while ensuring economic benefits for miners and the country as a whole.
Mahama unveiled plans to establish a Gold Board, modeled after the successful Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod), to regulate the gold mining sector. He explained that such a board would create a structured system for mining activities, ensuring that the country’s gold industry is both profitable and sustainable.
“Our gold industry holds immense potential, but it must be managed responsibly,” he said. “A Gold Board will ensure that mining benefits everyone while protecting the environment for future generations.”
The NDC’s final rally is scheduled to take place in Madina, Greater Accra Region. This event will serve as a grand finale for months of grassroots engagement and nationwide campaigning. Party leaders, executives, and former NDC officials will join Mahama in making their final appeal to voters.
At the rally, Mahama is expected to reinforce his vision for a better Ghana, highlighting the NDC’s plans to rebuild the economy, improve public services, and restore trust in leadership. He has consistently urged Ghanaians to vote for progress, accountability, and a brighter future.
“This is our chance to rebuild and restore Ghana’s dignity,” he said. “Let us come together as one people and choose a future of hope, progress, and prosperity. Together, we can make the change Ghana deserves.”
