Abedi Pele Boosts Morale with Visit to Black Maidens at WAFU B U-17 Tournament
Ghanaian football legend Abedi Pele made a morale-boosting visit to the Black Maidens on Thursday, ahead of their participation in the West African Football Union (WAFU) Girls U-17 tournament. The former AFCON winner, who played a key role in Ghana’s 1982 Africa Cup of Nations victory, took time to visit the team at their training base, the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram.
During his visit, Pele, who has always been a strong advocate for Ghanaian football, expressed his confidence in the team’s potential. “I am eagerly looking forward to seeing the Black Maidens dominate in the upcoming tournament, and I hope you win it,” he said. Pele was impressed by the dedication and discipline the players displayed on the field. “I am impressed with how well you are executing your coaches’ instructions on the pitch. Stay focused and be disciplined,” he added.
The Black Maidens are preparing for the tournament with high hopes of defending their honor as host nation. Ghana has been drawn into Group A, alongside Burkina Faso and Benin. The tournament is set to commence on December 12, with the final scheduled for December 26. All matches will take place at the Ghanaian Soccer Center of Excellence, which serves as the home base for the Black Maidens.
The visit from Pele was especially appreciated following the team’s impressive 5-1 victory over Rootz Sistaz in their first preparatory match for the tournament. The Black Maidens are gearing up for more friendly games, with matches against Epiphany on Friday and Sissamba Ladies on Sunday to complete their preparations.
Pele’s encouragement came at a crucial time, as the team has shown great promise in their warm-up games, and the legendary midfielder’s words have added extra motivation to an already determined squad.
