In a recent interview on the Rollingout podcast, Nigerian superstar Davido opened up about his Christian upbringing and how his father’s faith-based principles have shaped his perspective on life’s challenges. Raised in a devout home, Davido revealed that his father, a successful businessman and elder in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, taught him invaluable lessons about trusting God in difficult times.
“My dad is very successful, but he’s also deeply religious. I grew up as a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and even attended a Christian college,” Davido shared, emphasizing how his family’s faith played a central role in his upbringing. These early teachings, he explained, laid the foundation for his ability to navigate life’s most challenging moments.
Reflecting on the wisdom imparted by his father, Davido recalled how it helped him cope with the painful loss of his son, Ifeanyi. “I overcame a lot of challenges because of my dad. Initially, I didn’t fully understand his advice. I was angry and questioned why bad things happen to good people. But my dad always told me, ‘You can’t question God.’ At the time, I didn’t get it. I asked him, ‘What do you mean I can’t question God?’”
However, Davido admitted that over time, his father’s words began to resonate with him. He explained that the trials he endured eventually led to unexpected blessings that restored his faith. “A year after losing my son, we were blessed with twins. I released the biggest album of my career, and I got my first Grammy nominations. That’s when it all started to make sense,” he said.
Davido acknowledged that life is full of unpredictable challenges, but he encouraged listeners to trust in God’s plan. “People go through different challenges, but just know that God has your back. Even when you don’t understand why things happen, trust that everything is part of a bigger purpose,” he said.
The singer’s candid reflections highlighted the role of faith, family, and resilience in his journey. Despite the hardships, Davido expressed gratitude for the lessons learned, which have not only shaped his personal growth but also fueled his career success.
