Akua Donkor's GFP Endorses NDC for Upcoming Elections
The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), founded by the late Akua Donkor, has officially endorsed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama, for the December 7, 2024, general elections. This endorsement follows the disqualification of the GFP’s presidential candidate, Philip Appiah Kubi, also known as Roman Fada, by the Electoral Commission (EC) due to issues with his nomination forms.
Jerry Addo, the GFP’s Deputy General Secretary, made the announcement during a press briefing on December 4, 2024. He explained that the decision to support Mahama and the NDC was reached after extensive internal consultations and careful consideration of the party's shared values and policy goals. According to Addo, the GFP’s leadership focused on the alignment of policies and the vision for Ghana’s future, rather than external influences, in making their endorsement.
“The Ghana Freedom Party is supporting the candidature of H.E. John Dramani Mahama on Saturday. He is poised to capture power to save Ghanaians,” Addo stated. He emphasized that the party had thoroughly reviewed the manifestos and policies of various political parties and candidates before deciding to back the NDC. This decision reflects the GFP’s commitment to supporting a leader who they believe will address the needs and concerns of the Ghanaian people.
This endorsement is a significant development for both the GFP and the NDC as the country heads toward the elections. The GFP’s backing strengthens Mahama’s position and expands his support base, particularly among the party’s followers. It also demonstrates a broadening coalition of political voices united in their support for Mahama and the NDC’s agenda for the country.
The Ghana Freedom Party has urged its supporters to rally behind John Dramani Mahama and NDC parliamentary candidates in the upcoming elections. This alliance signals a unified front as they aim to secure victory in December, joining other political factions in supporting the NDC’s vision for a better Ghana.
