5 Saudi Pro League Stars Out of Contract in 2025

Some of the biggest names in the Saudi Pro League could become free agents next summer. The league, which has seen massive investment in recent years, is now home to world football superstars. Here’s a look at five high-profile players whose contracts expire at the end of this season:

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo remains the league's biggest name and the highest-paid player in the world, earning around £3.2 million per week at Al-Nassr. Despite being 39, Ronaldo has shown no signs of slowing down, netting 20 goals across all competitions this season with a goal contribution every 81.86 minutes.

While his contract runs out in 2025, talks for a renewal are reportedly underway. Saudi officials are keen to retain their prized assets. Ronaldo has hinted he may finish his career at Al-Nassr, saying in August, “I’m happy at this club and in this country. I want to continue.”

Neymar

Neymar’s tenure at Al-Hilal has been plagued by injuries since his £75 million transfer from PSG. The Brazilian, who earns £1.6 million per week, has managed just seven appearances.

A recent injury has sidelined him until 2024, and his future at the club looks uncertain. Al-Hilal managed a domestic treble without him last season, reducing his leverage for a renewal. Speculation about a romantic return to Santos persists, though it would require a significant pay cut.

Daniel Podence

Portuguese winger Daniel Podence joined Al-Shabab from Wolves last summer but could be in for a short stay. His deal expires at the end of the season.

Injuries have hampered his time in Saudi Arabia, limiting him to just three appearances so far. If he fails to make an impact this season, a move back to Europe could be on the cards.

Karl Toko Ekambi

Al-Ettifaq forward Karl Toko Ekambi signed a one-and-a-half-year contract in January. While he contributed a decent goal tally last season, he is yet to score in the current league campaign.

With Al-Ettifaq languishing near the bottom of the table and manager Steven Gerrard under pressure, it’s uncertain whether Ekambi will receive an extension.

Moussa Dembele

Also at Al-Ettifaq, Moussa Dembele was their top scorer in 2023-24 but has struggled this season. His current deal ends in 2025, and European clubs may approach the former Lyon striker in January as his form dips.

The coming months will determine the futures of these stars as clubs assess their value in Saudi football’s rapidly evolving landscape.
