Juliet Duodo - Support gospel musicians
USA-based Ghanaian gospel artist, Juliet Duodu, has called on well-established churches in Ghana to provide greater support to instrumentalists and singers, particularly those just starting their careers. Duodu, who won the Gospel Artiste of the Year award at the 2024 Central Music Awards, believes that these music ministers play a crucial role in spreading the gospel and uplifting congregations, but often struggle financially.
In a recent interview, Duodu emphasized the importance of supporting these talented individuals. She pointed out that music ministers are not just entertainers but are vessels through which God works to touch lives and hearts. However, she believes that their work is often overlooked, particularly when it comes to financial and professional support.
She urged that churches recognize the value of music ministers and provide them with necessary resources such as financial assistance, training, and access to tools that will help them improve their craft. Duodu also highlighted the costs involved in producing quality music, noting that many church leaders focus solely on the spiritual aspect of worship and fail to consider the financial aspects involved in producing well-mastered songs.
As a successful artist herself, Duodu understands the challenges music ministers face. She explained that financial support from churches would enable these musicians to focus on spreading the gospel and enhancing worship experiences. “This support enables musicians to focus on sharing the gospel through music, enhancing worship experiences, and inspiring congregations,” she said.
Her call for action resonates with others in the gospel music industry. Veteran gospel musician Uncle Ato has also voiced concerns about the lack of support for gospel musicians and instrumentalists, urging churches to step up and provide the necessary backing for these individuals.
Duodu acknowledged that concerns regarding the music industry's challenges have been raised before but stressed that this issue should not be ignored. She believes that consistent advocacy is essential to bring about change and improve the state of the industry.
At the 2024 Central Music Awards, Duodu was honored with the prestigious Gospel Artiste of the Year award. In her acceptance speech, she expressed deep gratitude to her fans, family, and team for their continuous support. To celebrate her success, she released "Ayeyi Wura (Lord of Praise)" last month, a song that praises the glory and sovereignty of God, with hopes that her latest achievement will further elevate her career.
