Black Sherif: My Snapchat Post Wasn't Directed at Shatta Wale

Ghanaian musician Black Sherif has dismissed rumors that his Snapchat post was intended to mock Shatta Wale’s fashion sense following criticism from the dancehall artist about his style. Speaking in an interview with Nigeria’s City FM on December 5, 2024, Black Sherif clarified that his post had no connection to Shatta Wale or his remarks.

“I didn’t post anything on my Snap because of him,” Black Sherif, popularly known as Blacko, stated. “So, because someone did an interview, I shouldn’t post on my Snap? I didn’t reply to anybody, and whatever they said online is just fan-fueled stuff. I don’t reply to anything about my fashion style.”

The controversy stems from Shatta Wale’s October 31, 2024, appearance on the Bant, Rants and Confessions podcast, hosted by Efia Odo, where he critiqued Black Sherif’s fashion choices, suggesting the young artist could improve his appearance. Shortly afterward, Black Sherif posted a Snapchat story with the caption “I plaster everywhere” alongside a photo of Shatta Wale, which many interpreted as a subtle jab at the dancehall star.

Shatta Wale took offense, accusing Black Sherif of not watching the full podcast to appreciate the positive things he said about him. He also issued a warning, referencing past feuds with Sarkodie, and claimed he could end Black Sherif’s career if he didn’t tread carefully.

In response to these threats, Black Sherif dismissed the entire situation as irrelevant, showing no concern for Shatta Wale’s comments. “This is the second time I’ve been asked about this, and honestly, I don’t have the kind of attention to give this issue. It’s not in my world. The discourse is irrelevant to me,” he explained, adding that his disinterest wasn’t meant disrespectfully.

He further clarified that he doesn’t view Shatta Wale as a rival. “Nothing can happen between me and Shatta Wale. It just can’t happen. Because of the positions we both occupy in society, the street doesn’t need that,” Black Sherif said, emphasizing the importance of unity.

Black Sherif remains focused on his craft and unbothered by the controversy. As the ‘Kwaku the Traveller’ hitmaker rises as one of Ghana’s most promising talents, his remarks underline his intent to avoid unnecessary conflicts, even amidst heightened speculation from fans and media.
