In a statement released on [date], Dr. Bawumia emphasized the need for the democratic process to be kept free, fair, and devoid of violence or any kind of disruption.
Dr. Bawumia, who is also the running mate for the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 elections, urged citizens to continue to be united and tolerant, irrespective of their political persuasions. "As we approach Election Day, let us all remember that Ghana's democracy is a precious asset, and it is our collective responsibility to safeguard it," he said.
The Vice President emphasized that the voters should be able to cast their votes in a peaceful atmosphere, without being intimidated or frightened. He called upon the political parties, candidates, and their supporters to respect the rights of others and not commit any acts of violence that would put the nation in danger.
Dr. Bawumia's comments come in the wake of growing concerns about the potential for electoral violence in the lead-up to the 2024 elections. Though Ghana has a good history of peaceful transition, there have been sporadic incidents of unrest during election periods. Dr. Bawumia, therefore, assured the public that the government was committed to ensuring the safety and security of all Ghanaians during the election process.
"The security agencies are well-prepared to maintain law and order and ensure that every citizen can exercise their right to vote without fear or disruption," he said.
He also reminded Ghanaians that their vote will determine the future of the country, and as such, they need to make conscious decisions whenever they go to the polls. "Your vote is your voice. Let it count for the development and progress of our beloved country," he concluded.
With the proximity of Election Day, Dr. Bawumia's appeal is timely as the shared desire for peace demonstrates an abiding faith in the democratic ideals of Ghana.
