Rosemary Zimu: "I'd be struggling if I acted to improve my finances
South African actress and singer Rosemary Zimu has opened up about her motivations for pursuing a career in acting, revealing that financial gain was never the driving force behind her decision. In an insightful conversation with Noella Kharyne Yalley on Hitz FM's Daybreak Hitz, Zimu explained that if acting were solely about improving her finances, she would likely be struggling.
"I have never felt like acting is not fulfilling to me at all," Zimu shared. "Whether financially or for me as a person, I didn’t choose acting, acting chose me and that was clearly for a reason." She expressed deep faith in the path she is on, acknowledging that acting was not something she planned for, but rather something that came into her life naturally. The actress believes that her journey is guided by a higher purpose and that any challenges she faces are only temporary. "I know that God will never put me in a place where I will suffer forever. After a little suffering, I know that something great is coming," she added.
Zimu, best known for her role as ‘Zinhle’ in Netflix’s hit South African series Savage Beauty, highlighted that her fulfillment comes from the passion and personal satisfaction she finds in acting. She emphasized that if she had chosen acting purely for financial reasons, she wouldn’t be as successful or content as she is now. Instead, she finds her success as an additional benefit that comes from pursuing what she truly loves. "If I were doing it for the finances, I think I’d be struggling, but I’m not doing it for that so that’s why they come as an extra," she stated.
Born on April 15, 1993, Zimu’s acting career has spanned several well-known roles, including appearances in Isidingo, Shadow (2017), Champagne (2015), and Scandal! Her breakout role in Savage Beauty marked a significant moment in her career, allowing her to showcase her talent on an international platform through Netflix, alongside co-stars Nthati Moshesh and Jesse Suntele.
Zimu’s perspective sheds light on the importance of passion and perseverance in the entertainment industry, inspiring aspiring actors to pursue their craft for the love of it, rather than solely for financial reward.
