Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician Joe Mettle has expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of airplanes operating flights to Ghana compared to those servicing other African countries. In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Mettle raised concerns about what he sees as a disparity in the standards of aircraft allocated to Ghana, despite the relatively high cost of air travel to the country.
Hi, family. So there’s something that’s been bothering me, and I wanted some help. I’ve had the privilege to travel a bit and realized that most of the planes that come to Ghana are not the best at all compared to the ones that go to other African countries. Why is that? he questioned.
Mettle noted that this disparity is particularly glaring when considering that flights to other destinations—sometimes with similar or shorter distances—feature newer, more comfortable aircraft. He suggested that Ghanaians might be receiving inferior services because they fail to demand better treatment.
Many times, the flight distance is even way shorter, and they still give them better planes. Is it because we take anything they give us and do not insist on being given better ones he wrote. Highlighting the financial aspect, he added, And oh boy, these tickets are not cheap.
The award-winning musician's comments have sparked a broader conversation about the state of air travel to Ghana, with many social media users sharing similar frustrations about the quality of service and the high cost of tickets. Critics argue that Ghana’s strategic importance as a growing hub in West Africa should be matched by better aviation standards.
Joe Mettle’s remarks also reflect his standing as a respected figure in the Ghanaian entertainment industry. Having been active in music for over two decades, Mettle is celebrated for his talent and humility. Known for steering clear of controversy, he has consistently focused on his craft, delivering inspirational gospel music to audiences in Ghana and beyond.
His comments on the aviation sector are significant as they highlight the need for stakeholders, including airlines and regulatory bodies, to address these concerns. Travelers to and from Ghana deserve better value for their money, especially given the country’s reputation as a preferred destination for tourism and business in the region.
Joe Mettle’s call to action is a reminder that Ghanaians must advocate for better services, ensuring that the country receives the same quality of treatment as its peers in Africa and beyond.
