Koku Anyidoho Unfazed by Potential Exclusion from Mahama’s Government
Koku Anyidoho, the Executive Director of the Atta Mills Institute and former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed indifference about being excluded from President-elect John Mahama’s upcoming administration. Speaking on Adom FM/TV following Mahama’s victory in the 2024 elections, Anyidoho stated he has no expectations of receiving a government appointment. He attributed this to the lack of proximity or collaboration with the former president's office during past administrations. Anyidoho emphasized that Mahama likely already has a team in mind for his government, as is customary when transitioning into power.
Reflecting on the dynamics of political appointments, Anyidoho noted that he had experienced similar scenarios during the tenure of the late President John Atta Mills. He mentioned that the pre-existing plans and inner circle decisions significantly influence government formations. "In 2009, before Mills came into power, we already knew what we were going to do," Anyidoho remarked, indicating his understanding of the process. He affirmed that his relationship with Mahama remains cordial despite his limited engagement with the administration, and this lack of involvement would not affect him personally.
However, Anyidoho revealed plans to formally congratulate Mahama, demonstrating goodwill toward the incoming administration. In a separate conversation, he indicated that he would visit the president-elect to extend his congratulations in person. This gesture aligns with his consistent calls for unity and mutual respect within the NDC. His recent remarks underscore a pragmatic approach to governance and a broader understanding of political dynamics while maintaining respect for Mahama’s leadership choices.
