Harry Kane has finally won the first trophy of his professional career after a long 14-year wait. This came after Bayer Leverkusen drew with Freiburg recently. With just two matches left and only six points left to collect, Bayern Munich were crowned Bundesliga champions, holding an eight-point lead over Leverkusen.
Interestingly, Kane could have won the trophy a day earlier—on May 3rd—if Bayern Munich had beaten RB Leipzig. However, something happened that made fans question whether the infamous "Spurs curse" had followed Kane to Germany.
Firstly, Kane was suspended for the match after reaching the yellow card limit and could only watch from the sidelines. RB Leipzig took a 2–0 lead in the first half, but Bayern being Bayern, staged a comeback, scoring three goals to take the lead. Just minutes before full-time, with Kane on the verge of stepping onto the pitch to celebrate his first professional title, Leipzig equalized. The draw postponed Bayern’s title celebrations.
Fortunately for Kane, Bayer Leverkusen stumbled the following day, drawing their match and handing the Bundesliga title to Bayern Munich.
For a club like Bayern, winning the Bundesliga isn’t a big deal—it’s expected. But for Harry Kane, it means everything.
Kane joined the Tottenham Hotspur academy in 2004 at the age of 11. He made his professional debut in 2011 and spent a remarkable 19 years at the club before transferring to Bayern Munich in August 2023.
During his time at Spurs, the club finished second several times—second in the Premier League, second in the League Cup, and even second in the Champions League—but never lifted a trophy. In fact, Spurs have now gone 17 years without winning any silverware. The closest they came was under José Mourinho, but in a strange decision, the club sacked him just days before a cup final.
Despite scoring over 430 career goals, this Bundesliga title is Kane’s first piece of silverware. Ironically, when he joined Bayern, the club had just completed a 10-year streak of Bundesliga dominance. That run came to a halt in his first season, thanks to Bayer Leverkusen’s stunning unbeaten run. But thankfully, Kane has now broken his personal drought.
As for Spurs, their trophy cabinet remains empty. Their only realistic hope this season lies in the Europa League. Personally, I feel bad for Son Heung-min, who has remained loyal to the club for years without tasting silverware. As a person, I hope Spurs win the Europa League for his sake—but as a Manchester United fan, I want us to win it instead.
Regardless, it seems Kane made the right move in leaving and escaping the so-called "Spurs curse."
Congratulations to Harry Kane!
