In a statement issued by the Communications Directorate at Jubilee House, President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his dedication to a seamless transition of power on January 7, 2025. He expressed his readiness to collaborate with Mahama and his team to ensure a smooth handover.
The President commended the Electoral Commission for organizing a credible and peaceful election, which he described as a testament to Ghana’s solid democratic institutions. He also praised the electorate and all stakeholders for their commitment to transparency and fairness throughout the electoral process.
“President Akufo Addo has reaffirmed his dedication to a peaceful and democratic transition, demonstrating Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy on the African continent,” said Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications.
In a gesture emphasizing unity and cooperation, the President invited Mahama for a transition meeting at Jubilee House, scheduled for December 11, 2024. This collaboration aims to lay the groundwork for Ghana’s continued development under the incoming administration.
Taking to Twitter shortly after the declaration, President Akufo Addo wrote:
Earlier this evening, I called President elect Mahama to congratulate him on his decisive victory in the just-ended presidential election. I also congratulated the @ECGhanaOfficial and the Ghanaian people for a successful election that reflects the enduring strength of Ghana’s democracy. In the spirit of collaboration, I invited the President-elect for a meeting on Wednesday at Jubilee House to initiate the transition process. May God continue to bless our homeland Ghana and make her great and strong.”
The statement emphasized the need for national unity and collective efforts to strengthen the nation. President Akufo-Addo called on Ghanaians to rally behind the new administration and consolidate the country’s democratic gains.
As the transition process begins, the peaceful conclusion of the elections reinforces Ghana’s position as a model of democracy in Africa. The collaboration between the outgoing and incoming administrations serves as an example of the nation’s dedication to upholding democratic principles.
President Akufo-Addo concluded his message with a prayer for divine blessings on Ghana, urging all citizens to work together to build a prosperous and united future.
