President Nana Akufo-Addo has officially appointed members of the Government Transition Team, with Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Ghana’s Chief of Staff, designated as Co-Chairperson. This team, established under the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), is tasked with ensuring a seamless transfer of executive authority.

Other notable members include the Head of Civil Service, Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, and the Head of Local Government Service, Dr. Nana Ato Arthur. Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari, Secretary to the Cabinet, and Edward Asomani, the National Security Coordinator, are also part of the team.
The Transition Team will be formally inaugurated on December 11, with President Akufo-Addo and President-elect John Dramani Mahama serving as Co-Chairpersons. In the President’s absence, Frema Osei-Opare will take the lead.
To ensure transparency and adherence to democratic principles, the President has also appointed the former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, to the Advisory Council. Rt. Alban Bagbin, the current Speaker of Parliament, will chair the Council.
In the statement, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of the transition process in maintaining stability and reinforcing Ghana’s democratic legacy. “This team’s work is vital in ensuring the smooth and efficient transfer of executive power,” the statement noted.
On the other side, President-elect Mahama has announced his team for the transition, expressing his commitment to collaboration.
