Jim Carrey is Back in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3,’ Quips About Needing the Money
Jim Carrey has returned to the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, reprising his role as the eccentric villain Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The actor, who previously hinted at stepping away from the series, shared his reasons for coming back while speaking to the Associated Press at the UK premiere of the film.
When reminded of his earlier remarks that only a “script written in gold ink by angels would entice him to return, Carrey laughed and admitted, That might have been hyperbole, but yeah. He added with his trademark humor, I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius. Which is a bit of a stretch. With a cheeky grin, he concluded, It’s just, that I bought a lot of stuff, and I need the money, frankly.
True to form, it’s difficult to determine where Carrey’s jokes end and his sincerity begins. His playful comments, however, highlight his continued enthusiasm for the role. But I’m taking a break. His comments then suggested that only an extraordinary project could draw him back to the screen.
Now, it seems that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has provided just the right mix of fun and creative opportunity to convince Carrey to reprise his role.
