In a significant development, the Ghana Police Service has successfully recovered a Nissan Pick-Up vehicle stolen from the office of Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the outgoing Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma West Constituency. The vehicle was stolen on Monday, December 9, by unidentified men who broke into Owusu-Ekuful's office, making off with valuable items, including three motorbikes and the Nissan Pick-Up.
Owusu-Ekuful, a three-term MP, had suffered a defeat in the recent elections, losing to the NDC's Parliamentary candidate, Rev. Kweku Addo. The police have been working tirelessly to apprehend the perpetrators of the theft and other post-election disturbances.
At a media briefing on Thursday, Police Head of Public Affairs Directorate, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, announced that the recovered vehicle is now at the Dansoman Police Station. The police have also arrested 17 more people in connection with attacks on offices, bringing the total number of arrests related to post-election disturbances to 123.
The police are still on the hunt for suspects who vandalized police stations in Techiman in the Bono East Region and Wenchi in the Bono Region. ACP Ansah-Akrofi assured the public that the police will stop at nothing to get the perpetrators arrested and face justice.
Post-Election Violence: Police Assure Government Workers of Safety
Despite the ongoing attacks on government agencies, the Ghana Police Service has assured government workers that they can feel safe and resume work. This assurance comes after a directive from the Head of Civil Service, instructing all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to take precautionary measures in the line of duty and temporarily close down offices if staff feel their lives are threatened.
The police have urged anyone with information about the perpetrators of the post-election violence to come forward and assist in the investigation. With the police working tirelessly to maintain law and order, Ghanaians can be assured that those responsible for the violence will be brought to justice.
The police are also working closely with other security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and face the full force of the law. The Ghana Police Service is committed to maintaining peace and stability in the country, and will not tolerate any form of violence or lawlessness.
